Motivation

Estimation of an object's pose is important for several reasons when using feature based recognition techniques. First of all, the actual appearance of a feature is likely to depend on the exact pose of the object. Therefore feature detectors work best when information about the pose is available. Furthermore, when pose as well as geometry of an object are known, the position of missing features in the image can be estimated from the positions of other, succesfully located features.
