The problem of fingerprint recognition is of significant importance. It is a quite difficult problem to approach for a distinct lack of technical literature on the subject. Most algorithms that work well are generally proprietary. The scope of this project is limited to the problem that involves deciding whether two fingerprints belong to the same person, or to two different people. Applications that use this problem include building access control given a known fingerprint and desiring to verify if another instance of the print belongs to the same person.
